Join a Resident Panel: The heart of decision-making
Help shape the services you use
Want to make a difference where you live?
Our Resident Governance Panels work directly with senior leaders to improve services, influence decisions and make sure residents' voices are heard. Members have helped shape policies, challenge performance and influence changes that affect thousands of residents.
If you've ever thought "someone should do something about that" – this is your opportunity to be involved.
We're currently recruiting
We're looking for new members across all our panels, with particular opportunities in:
- Kent and Essex
- Sussex
- Midlands
- Berkshire, Isle of Wight, Hampshire and Surrey
- Resident Scrutiny and Policy panel (You can live anywhere)
Places are limited and applications are considered throughout the year. Please see the dates of the next meetings on the Key Dates widget top right

By joining a panel you can:
✅ Influence decisions that affect residents
✅ Help improve services
✅ Learn new skills and build confidence
✅ Receive training and support
✅ Meet other residents and colleagues
✅ Access specialist resident engagement resources through TPAS

You don't need experience
We're looking for residents who:
- Care about their community
- Can share their experiences and views
- Want to help improve services
- Are willing to listen and work with others
We'll provide training, support and guidance to help you succeed.
How much time does it take?
Most panels meet four times a year and members spend less than a few hours each quarter helping shape our services.
Meetings:
- Usually take place online
- Last around 90 minutes
- Are held in the evening between 5.30pm and 7.30pm
- Include papers sent in advance
Ready to get involved?
We're looking for residents who want to help shape the future of Southern Housing.
Complete the Register Your Interest form here and a member of the Resident Engagement Team will arrange an informal conversation with you. We'll talk through opportunities available, answer any questions you may have, and help you decide whether joining a panel is right for you.
There's no obligation to join, and you can even observe a panel meeting before making a decision.
Message from a current panel member:
''Everyone is very friendly and you have an opportunity to contribute your take on the social and practical issues up for discussion at each quarterly meeting. Everyone on the panels is pretty easy going, so don’t be afraid to have a go. I save the incentive in a pot and then treat myself or the grandkids at Christmas.''
